Again art from a Romanian private collection
From May 10th to July 2nd, 2021, the Vienna Private Art Club ART 9TEEN will once again present art from Romanian private collections in the 19th district. Under the title “Things in the rear-view mirror are closer than they appear – Romanian contemporary art from the collection of the MARe Museum in Bucharest”, post-communist painting and video art from the MARe Museum of Contemporary Art will be shown. The focus is on conceptual art from southern Romania, works by Gili Mocanu, Anca Mureșan, the great Ecaterina Vrana, who unfortunately died far too early, Dumitru Gorzo, Nicolae Comănescu, Virginia Toma, including videoart by Regina Ionescu, Mitos Micleusanu and Regele Ionescu.
The exhibition is complemented by works by the named artists, which are made available by Dan Popescu, Managing Director of the Bucharest H’art Gallery.
“The cooperation between museum, gallery and Private Art Club may be extraordinary, but is necessary in our time of crises and reorientations,” explains Thomas Emmerling, artistic director at ART 9TEEN in Döbling “Restrictions gained in importance”. The works shown go far beyond the technical and craftsmanship to which Central European art is often unjustifiably reduced.
Erwin Kessler, Director of the MARe Museum explains: “The title of the exhibition already describes it. We show a compact, transversal section through various current artistic positions: a color-intensive representation of disruption, frailty, severity and passion. The selected works and artists combine craftsmanship and naivety, faith and blasphemy, hermeticism and humor, feminism and eroticism, consumerism and depression. It is about the amalgamation of submission and protest that gripped the whole of Romanian society in 1989 after the fall of communism.
“In 2020, ART 9TEEN had already shown works by Romanian and international artists from private collections in the Balkan country under the title “Global Contemporary”, ART 9TEEN operator Alexander Varvaressos explains, “We also want to draw attention to the fact that we have an exceptionally lively and lively art scene in Southeastern Europe and especially in Romania, which produces amazing artists whose work is collected”.
ART 9TEEN attaches great importance to the safety and health of our friends and guests. All encounters on our premises take place at certain time windows and in accordance with and strict compliance with the applicable hygiene regulations.
The exhibition will take place from May 10th to July 2nd, 2021 in the premises of the ART 9TEEN Private Art Club in the 19th district, Billrothstraße 29. Online reservation at www.art9teen.eu required. Free entry!
