GLOBAL CONTEMPORARY hosted by ART 9TEEN until Sep 5th,…
Under the title “GLOBAL CONTEMPORARY – Art from Romanian Private Collections” an exhibition exclusively from international works by Romanian private collectors will take place from June 24th until September 5th, 2020.
Yes, there are art lovers and collectors in Romania who are passionate about contemporary international art from different continents. The exhibition wants to show that, and that the collectors look around in New York, London, Berlin and other cultural hot spots, and yet one does not lose touch with the home.
This may come as a surprise, despite the great efforts to grind down education, art and culture in times of communism, the old Central European tradition of collecting art has been preserved in Romania.
We have invited collector colleagues to come to Vienna to give an insight into their portfolios. Collectors from Cluj-Napoca, Bucharest and Sibiu show contemporary art from Bulgaria, Germany, England, France, Israel, Moldova, USA and Romania.
The openness of Romanian collectors is reflected in the range of artists’ origins, but also in the different artistic positions that range from very abstract to lyrical and figurative.
The concept of the exhibition follows this expanse and unites the different positions without being overloaded. The exhibition is particularly exciting against the background of the common cultural and historical development along the river Danube, which has also helped to shape the understanding of art in today’s Romania. What is striking about all the differences in the portfolios is the fact that Romanian collectors place great value on the style, quality, aesthetics and message of the artist. All these are the attitudes that make up Central Europe, even today.
The opening took place on June 23, 2020 in the presence of the collectors who insisted on sharing their personal ways of thinking with the numerous guests on this long evening, accompanied by culinary delicacies.
